2003 RACE RECAPS

The team is looking forward to heading back to Tri-City in 2004 as during the driver’s meeting it was mentioned that Supers will be returning to the “Trick Track” next year. Maybe we can continue with our streak in 2004.

Recap: It was great to be back at Tri-City for their grand re-opening. The team would like to send out congratulations to the new owners and everyone involved in bringing the “Trick Track” back to life. It was great to be back and have a pack grandstand to race for.

Steve started out the night like we’d been there all along with setting fast time, winning the 4 car dash then passing on the last lap to win the heat race. In the feature Steve got into 2nd and was getting ready to set-up the pass on race leader #24 Norm Davis but the transmission broke ending our night. The team may have been down but just being back at Tri-City and knowing we had a car capable of winning the feature will make us that much stronger this coming Thursday, August 28th when we go back to Tri-City Motor.

The team would like to send out congratulations to Norm Davis for his win as Norm’s long time crew chief Bob Pribila passed away just 2 weeks ago. Norm was also racing for his long time friend Pat Bourdow who also passed away earlier this year due to cancer. Norm was racing with a heavy heart and the team sends out its congratulations on his victory.

The team would also like to say congratulations to Jay & Kirk Reinbold for their 3rd place finish in their 1st Super Late Model feature at Tri-City. They placed 2nd in the Limited Late Model Feature just minutes before the start of the Super Feature. The same car was used with just the change of tires. Congratulations guys!!

# of Laps: 100
Qualified/Started: 10th out of 26 (15.12)

Recap: DNF Car’s handling became bad, thought we had a tire going down. Steve was running in 2nd for 78 laps trying to make his move on the leader #5 Eric Lee, then #1 Mike Luberda Jr. tapped Steve’s bumper in turn 3 & 4 causing Steve to spin. Steve was forced to go to the rear along with Luberda due to the spinnee/spinner rule Dixie has in effect. Steve drove a few more laps before pulling in as the car was handling bad.

Event: Toledo Speedway Gold Cup 100
Location: Toledo Speedway
Date: June 29th, 2003
# of Laps: 100
Qualified/Started: 10th out of 28 (15:68)
Finished: 6th
Winner: #72 Scott Hantz
Fast Lap: 15:43 by #19 Brad Kesolowski
Recap: For some reason Toledo’s race write up left Steve out. Steve finished in a hard fought 6th position due to an altercation on lap 10. According to the officials in the tower at Toledo they said Steve spun out car #41 Brent Jack in turn #1. Steve never touched him but was still forced to go to the back of the pack. As a result of this Steve went into the pits and made a chassis adjustment. Steve re-started at the back of the pack and charged his way up to a 6th place finish.

Event: Super 8 Series Round #3
Location: Auto City Speedway
Date: June 22, 2003
# of Laps: 50
Qualified/Started: 3rd out of 22
Finished: DNF (pulled off with 15 laps to go)
Winner: #47 Freddy Campbell
Recap: All we can say about this race is, “it was ugly.” The track conditions made all cars to appear to be slip, sliding around. Steve was involved in a few altercations that put him to the back several times. The first was even before 1 lap was in. He was forced to go to the back after going into the pits even though the race had not even completed 1 lap so the call was questionable. The team believes we should have recieved our originated spot back seeing that the race hadn’t got in 1 lap and that we got “cranked” from behind by another driver causing us to spin. It was one of our worst finishes at Auto City in a very long time and its not really the other drivers fault for the accidents we were involved in, it was just a night where the track was very hard to drive on without driving into other cars.

Event: “Dixie Classic” Main Event Racing Series
Location: Dixie Motor Speedway
Date: June 21, 2003
# of Laps: 100
Qualified/Started: 15th out of 29*
Finished: 4th
Winner: #7 Rich Rohrer
Fast Lap: #114 Jack Varney
Recap: *We were the 1st car to qualify and the track didn’t get our time so we were forced to re-qualify. This put us out of the top 14 being locked in on time trials and forced us into a last chance race. Steve won the last chance 15-lap race. By winning this race it put us into the 100-lap Dixie Classic starting back in the 15th position.
